Port Dover Farms
The Farms.com Risk Management team currently is managing risk for the Farms.com Corporate farm: Port Dover Farms- a 2000 acre cash crop operation in Port Dover, Ontario. It’s a working farm requiring the same marketing decisions as your farm. Port Dover Farms enables the Risk Management team to get a first hand look at farm production issues, as well as the costs associated with the issues. Our Port Dover Farms Cost of Production allows the Risk Management team to accurately track the input trends that consistently change the bottom line. Also, having the farm has enabled the Farms.com Risk Management team to limit other risk variables associated with cash cropping, which may not have been addressed before.
On our Port Dover Farm, over the past 5 years our average gain per acre by effective marketing tactics resulted in gains of $48/acre. The farm yields for the 2009 season included corn-172bu/acre, soybeans-46b/acre, and wheat 76bu/acre. Effectively forward booking grain, locking in basis, and avoiding the harvest lows has improved the profitability of our own farm; we want to do the same for you!
