2023 8th Annual Great ON Yield Tour
August 14 - August 25, 2023
Welcome to the 2023 8th Annual Great ON Yield Tour.
A bullish tide lifts all boats! 2023 is similar to 1934, 1983 and/or 2012 as Mother Nature is repeating itself with a very dry weather pattern. A large portion of the U.S. corn and soybean crops are being grown in abnormally dry conditions. In a drought, the rain disappoints, never materializes, and never verifies. 2023 is very similar to 2012 but what’s been lacking is heat but it’s coming with the summer upon us!
The U.S. Midwest crops are in drought with little rain in the forecast since April and is driving prices sharply higher. Ontario farmers may be able to reap most of the benefits of higher futures if moisture continues to fall in the province, but a weather outlook that calls for record heat in July and August is not assuring. Ontario had ideal planting conditions during spring/early-summer, moisture after that, and a strong yield potential is in the offing as we are still not out of the woods, but it may not be a record crop like 2021.
The eastern Ontario event was held August 24th in Chesterville at Derks Elevator and the western Ontario event was held August 31st at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show.
