In 2025, the “garden” spot was Chatham-Kent that more than offset a dry east. The final Ontario corn yield from Agricorp was higher-than-expected and above-average at 190 bpa. The soybean yield at 46 bpa was average at best. Even Chatham struggled to produce high soybean yields.


According to the 2025 10th Annual Great Ontario Yield Tour, the provincial yield on corn was projected at 178.93 bpa, (Stats Canada at 175.6 bpa), and the soybean yield was projected at 46.61 bpa (Stats Canada at 46 bpa)

According to the Canadian Drought Monitor (as of end-April 2026), precipitation was generally above normal in Ontario in April, supporting widespread drought recovery. Temperatures were seasonal across most of the region. Much of Ontario received between 85% and more than 200% of normal precipitation, with the wettest conditions occurring in western and eastern parts of the province. In Ontario, drought conditions improved significantly across most regions due to sustained above normal winter precipitation, adequate spring rainfall, and snowmelt. In Northwestern Ontario, Abnormally Dry (D0) conditions decreased, with only small pockets remaining. Increased precipitation (85 to over 200% of normal) and rapid snowmelt raised water levels, prompting flood watches in many areas. Agricultural reports indicated optimal to surplus soil moisture in eastern and central Ontario, where all remaining Abnormally Dry (D0) areas were eliminated. Despite generally wet conditions, short term dryness late in the month increased fire risk and led to temporary fire bans in parts of eastern Ontario. Western and southern Ontario remained drought free and above normal precipitation and surplus soil moisture have delayed fieldwork

Warmer temperatures arrived in Ontario in early June, helping to accelerate crop development after a spring that trended on the cooler side. The upcoming rain and brief cooldown following the heat will support soil moisture, and temperatures are expected to rise again next week with increased sunshine. Overall, crop conditions should remain good or continue to improve through mid June and beyond.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) 3-month seasonal outlook for June, July, and August 2026, points to significantly above-average temperatures across most of the country. For southern Ontario, the probabilistic maps indicate a 65 to 75% probability of above-normal temperatures this summer, driven by historic global warming trends. Seasonal outlook for June 2026 highlights a volatile "tug-of-war" for Ontario, featuring a 70% to 80% probability of above-average temperatures across southern regions and a drier-than-normal summer signal for northwestern Ontario. Despite the long-term hot seasonal trend, early June is seeing occasional, cooler weather and scattered thunderstorms before intense, sustained summer heat takes hold.


According to OMAFRA’s crop report as of May-end, “wet conditions stalled many field activities with significant rainfall received over much of the province over the weekend. Field drying weather has occurred since and will allow for remaining crop acres to be planted with continued warm and dry weather in the forecast.”
